Honor Oak Letting and Estate Agents
Architecture and property
When walking around Honor Oak and taking a closer look at the streets and the buildings, like so much of South London you can see the changes over the last 2 centuries with the development of the South Ward and the effects of 20th Century urban planning along with the blitz. From the hidden gems of Regency Stucco fronted properties, and late 1800’s popularization that followed the Train lines, Forest Hill also has the advantage of award winning Post War 60’s architecture including Walter Seigel’s almost ‘cult’ designed homes.
Eating and drinking
Honor Oak provides all sorts of options for London’s eaters and drinkers. With an array of Coffee Houses like St Davids Coffee house that serves some of London’s finest coffee, to the lovely Cake’s available at Canvas & Cream. There are pubs, gastro pubs, shabby sheek pubs and classic pubs. Our personal favourite is the little known Blythe Hill Tavern on Stanstead Road, which offers great Ale and possibly one of the best pints of Guinness outside Ireland.
Parks and commons
While much of South London is blessed with landscaped urban green spaces, Forest Hill has just that little bit more to offer. There are terrific London bound skyline views of Horniman Gardens as well as woodland walks were you can walk across a bridge and imagine the old railway tracks dismantled after the Beeching Report and from where Pissarro may have set up his easel to paint The Rail Station at Lordship Lane. Crystal Palace Park with all its own History and mesmerising annual firework display is a short distance away.
Honor Oak has had its fair share of famous and infamous residents. More recently actor Timothy Spall was a long time resident of Forest Hill and he even lived close to the great Boris Karloff’s childhood family home. American novelist and screenwriter Raymond Chandler is thought to have lived with his mother in Devonshire Road for a time while at school at the nearby Dulwich College. Devonshire Road also was also the home for awhile of the late, Desmond Decker, a ska performer from Jamaica made South London his home.
